JOHANNESBURG: South Africa skipper Dean Elgar and crew supervisor Khomotso Masubelele met match officers in the course of the lunch break on Day 2 of the second Test to debate a questionable caught behind dismissal of Rassie van der Dussen.
ESPNcricinfo reported that Elgar and Masubelele needed to debate the dismissal with on discipline umpires Marais Erasmus and Allahudien Palekar, third umpire Adrian Holdstock and match referee Andy Pycroft.
What was mentioned between them stays unclear.
Van der Dussen was adjudged caught behind by the on-field umpire on the stroke of lunch off Shardul Thakur however there have been questions on the legality of the catch taken by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.
However, there was no conclusive proof that the ball bounced earlier than going into Pant’s gloves.
Law 2.12 requires conclusive proof for an on-field choice to be overturned.
“An umpire may alter any decision provided that such alteration is made promptly. This apart, an umpire’s decision, once made, is final,” it states.
