At least 13 folks had been killed in a fireplace at a public housing constructing in Philadelphia on Wednesday morning, the town’s fireplace division stated. Seven kids are among the many victims within the two-unit rowhouse in Philadelphia’s Fairmount neighborhood.
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney stated it was “devastating” to lose so many kids. “Keep these babies in your prayers,” the mayor instructed reporters.
Deputy Fire Commissioner Craig Murphy instructed reporters eight folks escaped from the constructing. Two others had been transported to space hospitals.
“I’ve been around for 35 years now and this is probably one of the worst fires I’ve ever been to,” Murphy stated at a press convention.
The fireplace division stated the decision got here in round 6:38 a.m. Wednesday. According to authorities, the fireplace occurred inside a duplex that homes two residences. Crews obtained the fireplace underneath management by 7:31 a.m.
Murphy stated he did not know what triggered the fireplace.
